Rodeo manager Natalie Flecker said they were introducing the AWOP system (Another Way of Paying) to allow rodeo-goers pay for items by wearing a wristband pre-loaded with funds.
“Rodeo patrons will be given a wristband when entering the rodeo for the first time,” Ms Flecker said.
“Next step is to visit one of the three kiosks located throughout Buchanan Park and deposit funds. There will be a one-off top up fee of $2.50.”
Ms Flecker said visitors could then use wristbands to buy any item on site.
“All bars, food and merchandise stalls will be 100 per cent cashless and will accept payment by wristband,” she said.
“On your way out, you can stop by a kiosk again to refund any remaining cash on your wristband.”
Ms Flecker said the system was safe and secure and would bring the rodeo into line with other major events such as the Gympie Muster and the Woodford Folk Festival.
“This is a quicker delivery system that will mean less queues at bars and you can get a record of your last 14 transactions,” she said.
“The refund system also means you won’t be left with a bunch of unusable tickets at the end of the night.”
Ms Flecker said other benefits included increased security for patrons and the rodeo which would have less cash on site.
Online refunds will be available after rodeo at www.awop.co.nz until August 31, if you forget when exiting the event.
You can register your wristband online for a refund as soon as you receive it, which means you won’t have to worry about forgetting your refund as it will be paid into your account after the event.
The system will be in place for the entire Isa Rodeo from Friday to Sunday, 11 to 13 August.
It applies to events in the main arena only - markets and sideshow alley stalls will remain cash only.
