The Curry Merry Muster Festival will have its name forged out in gold as it becomes the latest organisation to be selected for the Australian Professional Rodeo Association’s Rodeo Hall of Fame.
This year, after 63 years in operation, the muster will be inducted in recognition of its longstanding, professional commitment to rodeo in Australia.
Muster long-time secretary Carlie Remfrey said the committee were blown away by the news and felt a strong sense of pride in being among the first.
Hall of Fame selection committee representative and rodeo royalty John ‘Happy’ Gill said the decision for the muster’s inclusion came down to two main things: longevity and local commitment.

“It is run by a rodeo committee, not a club or other organisation; in the early days these guys would have done the hard yards to raise funds to get it going,” Happy said.
“Cloncurry was always a big part of the early years in the western rodeo circuit; they were a committee that would always get in and on with the job.”
A number of previous and current committee members have been invited to take part in the induction ceremony and receive recognition for their part in building the Merry Muster into what it is today.
Many of the members have been involved in the muster for years, if not decades.
For some, like Ms Remfrey, it is a family affair.
“My brothers, my mother and I have been on the committee over the years; I first started competing in the muster before joining the committee,” she said.
The event is now listed among some of the greats in Australian Rodeo including the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society and Lang Lang Rodeo.

The official induction will take place during the official opening of the Merry Muster on Saturday night, August 5.
