Each year, around 200,000 school students participate in a special National Tree Day event designed just for them, Schools Tree Day.
In Mount Isa, Bell and Moir Toyota have sponsored two tree-planting events this week.
On Friday the children at St Paul’s Lutheran Church Childcare Centre planted several new trees and countless seedlings in their spacious green yard.
Bunnings was also on hand to supply plants, and staff from both local business visited the centre on Friday.
The centre’s Second in Charge, Angela Morris, said the children had a fun morning of getting their hands grubby.
“It’s about getting the children involved, showing them the importance of planting trees.”
This is the first Schools Tree Day event the centre has participated in.
“We saw it advertised and thought it would be good, with our large grass areas we needed some more plants, and they are supplied which is great,” Angela said.
