Mount Isa Police Station’s Senior Sergeant Renee Hanrahan said the man’s death was not suspicious and that police would not investigate the matter further. 

Senior Sergeant Hanrahan confirmed the man died due to health reasons but said she was not qualified to identify the cause more specifically.  

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were called to Miles Street at 7.28pm to attempt resuscitation of the man. 

She confirmed the attempted resuscitation was due to medical reasons. 

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service personnel were also at the scene although QAS could not confirm why. 

A witness to the incident said on social media that the paramedics moved the “old countryman” out of a garden bed and onto the footpath to start CPR. 

“As more emergency services arrived they enclosed the situation by holding up tarps around this poor old fella,” she said. 

“You could see the urgency in all of their faces.

“In the time it took us to order and receive a meal, the lives of so many people has changed forever.”
