American news agency Reuters announced Monday (US time) it had appointed Corinne Perkins as its North America Editor of Reuters Pictures.
Rickey Rogers, Global Editor, Reuters Pictures, announced the move in a memo to staff saying Ms Perkins was “from the Australian mining town of Mount Isa.”
“Corinne returns to Reuters Pictures from her current position of Editor of the Online Visual Desk at reuters.com, in Toronto,” Mr Rogers said.
“She will take over the leadership of the Pictures team in the US and Canada, and will report to me.”
Ms Perkins was born in the Isa and the family moved to Brisbane in 1993 where she attended Brisbane State High.
Always interested in photography she was selected to work with Reuters as a freelance editorial assistant at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
She was hired in 2005 as an Editor-in-charge on the Singapore global pictures desk, before joining the reuters.com team in Toronto in 2007.
Mr Rogers said Ms Perkins championed Reuters Pictures on all platforms, including building the Instagram account to over 1.2 million followers and developed their own Photographer’s Blog into a renowned forum to discuss pictures and tell photographers’ stories from around the world.
“Corinne has strived to present the best of Reuters photography on our digital sites as well as to our clients,” he said.
Corinne will take up her new role on September 1 and will be moving to New York soon after.
Mum Di Perkins told the North West Star the family was delighted with this great promotion for their third daughter.
“We are very proud of her, she has a lot of courage and she doesn’t baulk at anything,” Di Perkins said.
“Congratulations, Sweetie!”
