Physiotherapy, speech pathology, exercise physiology, midwifery, pharmacy, and psychologist were among the fields represented at the Mount Isa Centre for Rural Health’s (MICRRH) Tjirtamai Hall.
The centre’s head of education, associate professor Catrina Felton-Busch, said the expo encouraged the local community to access the university’s course information.
It allowed them to talk to academics before submitting their applications, she said.
Ms Felton-Busch said it was part of a strategy to build a health workforce in North West Queensland.
“There’s evidence there that if they (health professionals) come from a rural area or did a placement in a rural area they are more inclined to come back and add to our workforce.”
It is the second year that the centre has held a health careers expo, the associate professor said.
