The event will see industry leaders share messages on the theme ‘Sharing My Story’.
The line-up includes Daniel Rockhouse, one of only two survivors of New Zealand’s Pike River Mine explosion, which killed 29 miners, including his brother Ben.
The conference runs until August 8, at The Star Gold Coast, Broadbeach.
There are seven keynote presenters on the program including: the first female Queensland Commissioner for Mine Safety and Health, Kate du Preez; one of Australia’s most decorated female soldiers and international peacekeeper, Matina Jewell; former chief inspector of Mines for New Zealand and now Chief Inspector and Strategic Advisor in NSW, Tony Forster; and Australian Workers’ Union Executive Officer, Mark Raguse.
Also involved is Dr. Sean Brady, a forensic engineer who specialises in identifying the cause of structural engineering failures and has worked internationally on many high-profile stadium collapses.
Now in its 29th year, the event is one of the largest mining health and safety conferences in the southern hemisphere and is expected to draw up to 600 delegates from across Australia.
