Just 21 years old Dakota has followed her father Darren Brandenburg as a bull contractor and the Brandenburgs supply bulls for PBR events across Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory from their 800-hectare property near Nebo. Dakota has been hauling bulls since she was 13 but now she has firmly stepped out of her legendary father’s shadow.
PBR General Manager, Glen Young said this was the inaugural year for the Contractor of the Year Award.
“It was a title that we felt was warranted with the direction we are taking with the sport,” Mr Young said.
“Riders want to get on good bulls, our fans want to see good bulls buck and we want to reward and acknowledge our contractors that can consistently deliver a great pen of bulls for our riders and fans.”
Dakota was a clear winner and over seven events and 39 buck-outs averaged over 43 points for the season which included events at Mount Isa and Julia Creek.
The awards are pulling up for Dakota who has accumulated a Bull of the Year Award, numerous High Point Bull of the Event Awards combined with two Bull Team wins and a second out of the three Cup Series Events this season and now the first ever PBR Australia Contractor of the Year.
The stand out bull on Dakota’s team was her PBR debut performer, “Un Broken” which consistently delivered scores between 44 to 46.5 points over the season, but there were also outstanding performances from the rest of her team including Slam n Jam the only other bull from the 2016/17 Season to deliver a 46 point bull score along with Take The Gamble, Lock n Load and Blossom, which have also scored 44 points or better this year.
PBR Australia congratulated Dakota. “She travelled tens of thousands of kilometres and maintained them in superb condition over the season, resting them when required and having them in peak physical condition for each event they contested.”
