Capital Football has delayed its decision on whether it will award Canberra Olympic three points for the round-14 clash against the academy.

It will likely inform the clubs after matches this weekend as it waits to see if Olympic will clinch top of the table honours when it plays against Gungahlin United on Sunday.

Olympic is three wins ahead of the FFA on the ladder with just three rounds left in the regular season.

However, a make-up clash between Olympic and the FFA could have a major impact on who finishes at the top of the ladder and which team is crowned league premier before the finals.

The academy, which will close its doors August 25, is keen to play the game given it is in its final season before FFA withdraw funding and the team exits the competition.

The FFA COE does not play finals as per its agreement with Capital Football, but finishing at the top of the ladder would be an ironic winning note given the FFA said it was not producing enough talent to justify its $1.6 million price tag.

It's understood Capital Football approached the COE this week to inform officials they were being forced to forfeit the postponed clash against Olympic.

Capital Football approved a decision to postpone the game because FFA players and coaches were in Thailand on international duties.

Capital Football declined to comment when contacted by Fairfax Media. But it is understood they are now considering a radical backflip depending on results this weekend.

Olympic were keen to play the fixture against the CEO before its FFA Cup round of 32 match against Sorrento FC in Perth last week, but the rescheduling saw Olympic head west without playing in 11 days.

Olympic crashed out of the Cup and it is understood with the league title all but secured, they have no interest risking injury or suspension by playing COE in a make up match.

There have been four league winners in the past five years and Olympic are now in the box seat for a fourth championship in five years and a second straight treble.

Meanwhile, Capital Football have also backflipped on bans handed down to two Canberra FC affiliates who had lengthy bans significantly reduced on appeal.

Former Canberra seniors coach Miro Trninic and current under-20 coach Renato Jelinic were both slapped with bans following a brawl at Deakin Stadium on July 1.

Trninc's suspension from spectating, playing and coaching until the end of the 2017 season and Jelinic's ban from playing, coaching or managing until the end of 2018, were both reduced to four-match suspended sentences following an appeal.
