An elderly couple got in difficulties fishing off Karumba during low tide.

An elderly couple had to be rescued after getting into difficulties while fishing in a small boat off Karumba Beach. On July 3 the boat was banked in the mud due to the outgoing tide. The couple tried to to walk through the mud but became stuck waist deep and could not reach the shore. Police and community members tied ropes to a large esky lid and pulled the couple to safety. QAS attended to the couple who appeared in good spirits. Police remind the public to be aware of tides and exercise caution in the water.
