Capital Football has backflipped on an agreement to postpone an FFA Centre of Excellence game, forcing the team to forfeit its match against Canberra Olympic and costing it any chance of a league title.

Canberra Olympic was crowned league champions for the second consecutive year on Wednesday when Capital Football delivered a silver bullet to the FFA COE's hopes.

Officials had agreed to postpone a round-14 match between the teams because the FFA was away on junior international duties.

But Capital Football cited a "decision under competition regulations" for changing its ruling, handing Olympic the title on the eve of the finals series.

Olympic will play against either Edgeworth FC or Hamilton Olympic in the National Premier Leagues finals later this year as well as juggling its Capital Football grand final aspirations.

However, the controversial decision will leave a sour taste in the mouths of everyone at the FFA COE after having its faint title hopes squashed by an off-field ruling.

GOULBURN CUP GETS A FUNDING BOOST

The Goulburn Cup has received a massive boost with Racing NSW announcing the country feature race's prizemoney will jump to $150,000.

It is one of five key country feature races to benefit with the Port Macquarie Cup, Wellington Boot, Tamworth Cup and Wagga Town Plate all earning the funding boost.

Goulburn's showpiece event is slated for November 26, with Racing NSW also confirming the schedule of Showcase meetings will expand from 40 to 45.

The number of country TAB meetings in 2017/18 will jump from 645 to 664, helping to add a total of $2 million to country prizemoney in 2017/18.

CANBERRA BASEBALL GUNS IN WORLD CUP TEAM

Three rising Canberra baseball stars will play for Australia at the under-18s World Cup in Canada next month.

Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis, Mitchell Edwards and Jake Green are the Canberra contingent in the side at the tournament, which starts with a clash against Korea on September 1.

Baseball Australia's Head of High Performance Glenn Williams said the coaching staff were challenged during the selection process.

"This has been one of the most difficult teams to select in recent memory, which is a credit to the hard work that the players and state based staff have put in leading into the MLBAAP," Williams said.

"We have been fortunate to have had ample opportunities to see players throughout a variety of programs to gather the information needed to finalise this team.

"We feel we have a very versatile club which will have the advantage of playing eight quality lead up games in Canada prior to the World Cup. I'm excited to see how they fare throughout the entirety of the program and have no doubt they will give it everything they have."

Long-time Team Australia coaching members Steve Fish, Graeme Lloyd and Damian Shanahan will this year be joined with two men coaching an Australian team for the first time, including Canberra Cavalry outfielder David Kandilas.

Kandilas has been a long-time member of the Australian team, including two appearances at the World Baseball Classic.

Australia's performances in Thunder Bay have been excellent, with a silver medal at the 2010 world junior baseball championship, which included a memorable 2-1 win over Cuba in the semi-final.

NSW AMATEUR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO CANBERRA

The tournament that has proved a breeding ground for stars of Australian and international golf is on its way back to Canberra.

The men's and women's NSW amateur golf championships will be hosted by the Royal Canberra Golf Club and Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club in January next year.

Over 400 male and female golfers are set to descend on the capital from across Australia, the Pacific, the United Kingdom, North America and Asia.

The men's event is of the oldest events in amateur golf worldwide having started in 1898 and boasts a winner's list featuring the likes of Bruce Devlin, Jack Newton, Brett Ogle, Peter O'Malley, and Lucas Parsons.

The championships begin on January 29 with the 36-hole final set to take place on February 2.
