It’s now the Friday of Rodeo Week so that mean’s only one thing – Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo starts today, yee-hah!
Gates open at 11am for the market stalls, side show alley, food and drinks, and several thousand spectators are expected in the door after earlier events were packed out this week.
The action in the rodeo arena kicks off at noon and will go non-stop all afternoon.
One of the bull ride favourites Roy Dunn has pulled out with injury but last year’s winner Jared Borghero returns after breaking his leg at Mount Morgan earlier this year.
Charters Towers cowboy Jack McArthur will also be one of the cowboys to watch after his win in the bull ride at Cloncurry Merry Muster last weekend.
Take time out in the Festi’Bull Chill Out and Kids Zone with performances from Dave Whitehead and Off The Cuff at noon and 4pm while Smudges Face Painting is there from 1pm-3pm with line dnacing at 5pm.
Boulia’s own Ali S Country takes the main stage at 5.30pm before two new events at 6pm.
They are the superhero bronc ride and the op shop barrel race with cowboys and cowgirls judged as much on their costumes as their performance on the horses.
That will be followed by the opening ceremony with the introduction of the cowboys.
The arena action then heats up with the open bareback first round, the junior barrel race final, team roping, steer wrestling, open saddle bronc and open bull ride to finish the evening.
Watch out for Hollywood Harris and his comedy rodeo clown performance too,
Then at 10pm after the action dies down, the cowboys’ official after party kicks off.
There will be live entertainment from Troy Kemp on the main stage until late.
