The 59th Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo got off to a spectacular start on Friday with a terrific day of action in the arena and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on hand to officially open the rodeo with Mount Isa Mayor Joyce McCulloch and indigenous dancing from the local Kalkatunga Sundowners as well as visitors from Doomadgee ahead of next weekend’s first Australian Indigenous Rodeo in the Gulf.
The Superhero bronc ride and the op shop barrel challenge proved popular on day 1 as did some of the smaller competitors including crowd favourite Dekota Caban on her pony Biscuit.
Saturday’s action begins when gates open at 9am. There will be market stalls, side show alley, food and drinks, and entertainment available.
The non-stop action in the rodeo arena begins at 9.30am and goes on all day apart from a lunch break.
Check out the Qld Country Credit Union Fan Zone in rodeo forecourt near the coffee shop for photographs and autographs with your favourite rodeo star.
Later at night the action moves to the main stage in the rodeo forecourt with live music from 10pm.
Busby Marou and O’Shea will be the headliners.
Popular Busby Marou have played the rodeo before while Nashville Australian expats O’Shea are back to perform after taking on social media duties last year.
