The Tech Savvy Seniors Queensland program is funded by Telstra and the Queensland Government through the State Library of Queensland and Department of Communities.
Cr Jean Ferris said the first workshop starts at 9.30am on Saturday, 19 August, and introduces seniors to the basics of operating a computer.
“There are many older members of our community who may not have used a computer or even fear them,” she said.
“This first workshop is about showing people computers aren’t terrifying and can in fact be very useful for a whole range of things from finding information to shopping and staying in touch with the grandchildren.”
Cr Ferris said workshops will be held regularly every week through to June next year.
“Each session is designed to be fun and demystify the technology that many of us take for granted,” she said.
“Seniors can sign up to learn how to use the internet, explore social media, how to email, shop, bank and pay bills online and use devices such as tablets and smart phones.
“Technology is a great tool for keeping in touch with family and friends, accessing services and learning about the world.
“I encourage anyone like me who is interested in building their technology skills, to sign up and take advantage of these free workshops.”
Information on the Tech Savvy Seniors workshops is available at the City Library and on the City Library e-resources web page.
