Months of bitter negations between Cricket Australia and its players finally ended this month and female players were the major winners, earning a massive pay increase from $7.5 million to $55.2 million.

Meteors players now have the potential to earn $60,000 if they are signed with a WNCL team and also play for Women's Big Bash League club this summer.

The Meteors delayed announcing their squad until the CA saga was settled and with the paperwork signed the players are now looking forward to getting on with the game.

ACT allrounder Nicola Hancock admitted it was a welcomed relief to have their future secured but said the belief within the group never wavered ahead of Meteors' season opener on October 6 .

"It's been a long preseason but the girls have stuck strong throughout and we've kept training, it's been business as usual," Hancock said.

"The girls have been putting in for a big season and there was no discussion to stop preparing for it, our thoughts were always to keep turning up and I assume the other teams did the same."

Hancock said the cash injection is a major boost for the women's game but added there is still room for improvement and hopes female cricketers will one day reach parity with the men's wages.

"The game looks fantastic for our future generations and the girls have to understand that players before us put in plenty of effort to make us become professional and we're very thankful for that," Hancock said.

"Having that extra money come through is really helpful for all the women, some girls still have to work through the day so there is still some movement to go, but we're quite happy with where we're at.

"I'm confident we'll get there [men's pay] soon or later. The girls are very fortunate where we're at now and we'll push as hard as we can to promote the game and be better players so they can see we all need to be full-time."

Meteors general manager and Sydney Thunder batsman Aiden Blizzard said there has never been a better time to be a female cricketer.

"I'm not going to say it's not overdue [women's pay rise], it's definitely a step forward. We're doing as best we can at the moment to ensure we're supporting all athletes and I think the girls here in the ACT are getting great support," Blizzard said.

"Opportunities have increased significantly in the past three to four years and you can see with the way the WBBL and WNCL are shaping up that professionalism is coming and it's going to be here to stay.

"We're really competing hard on the war for talent for male and female athletes and the progression that cricket is making at the moment is really positive and going to hold the game in good stead."
