The suspension means one of Australia's most gifted riders will be absent from the first million-dollar weight-for-age race of the season, the Memsie Stakes meeting on August 26.

In his evidence, Oliver was highly critical of fellow jockey Craig Williams' tactics in the same race.

After pleading guilty, with mitigating circumstances, to causing interference aboard Red Core in the Sheamus Mills Bloodstock Handicap, it is a disappointing start to the new season for the jockey.

Stewards charged Oliver with shifting in onto Esperance (Craig Williams) near the 900-metre mark, which resulted in Secret Reward (Brad Warilla) being severely crowded and The Sword (Aaron Lynch) severely checked.

Oliver told stewards he'd been used by Williams, who was riding the heavily-backed, long odds-on favourite, Esperance, who won the race.

"It was a selfish act, he's put two riders inside us in a dangerous position just for the sake of not being stuck three deep," Oliver said.

"You guys [stewards] aren't in a position to hear what goes on in the jockeys' room, but I haven't had one jockey in the room say I wasn't stitched up. I've got no reason to put those guys in that situation in a race like this.

"Craig's call was late. If he had called earlier I could have done something sooner."

In arriving at the verdict, chief steward Terry Bailey said stewards took into consideration Oliver's guilty plea and the circumstances put forward regarding Williams.

"But we can't get past that you were never clear of him," Bailey said.

Meanwhile, Irish trainer Willie Mullins knows that to topple the world's best race mare, Winx, on her home soil over her pet distance in front of an adoring crowd, would be the finest David and Goliath performance seen in sport in some years.

But when form analysts see the horse pitted against Winx, who is attempting a third-straight Cox Plate, they'll be content that her connections have little to worry about come late October.

However, Mullins has earmarked his Cox Plate hopeful Riven Light for much loftier events than he has been performing in at home.

Mullins can never be challenged on his worldwide reputation of grooming a good horse into a great one, whether it's on the flat or over the hurdles and - Riven Light will be no different.

The Irishman began hatching plans for an Australia mission after Riven Light impressed by winning at Galway in Ireland.

And Leigh Jordon - racing's international scout - said he is aware of Riven Light and the trainer's opinion that he could develop into a special racehorse.

"But it's more about the challenge."

Winx is rated the best racehorse in the world and Willie knows that his horse will need to compete in the elite racing in Europe for him to be considered [for] the Cox Plate.

"However, it's all about competition and the composition of the final field that makes for the best and purest racing," Jordon said.
