Randall Hammond said his wife Umi Saerah visited the RFDS Unit in Camooweal on August 8 where they drilled three teeth in ready for filling. “Another appointment was made for August 11 for the teeth to be filled,” Mr Hammond said.
“My wife received a call from the RFDS on Friday morning cancelling her appointment and was basically advised to return next year.”
Mr Hammond said that left his wife with three teeth drilled with no filling and it was difficult to come to Mount Isa to get it looked at.
Annette Saleta, State Services Coordinator, RFDS Dental Service, said the RFDS Dental Service provides a free mobile dental clinic for rural and remote communities across Queensland.
“The RFDS dental team ran a free dental clinic in Camooweal from August 1 – 11,” Ms Saleta said.
“One patient seen on Tuesday received a routine check and clean where it was identified three teeth required further treatment and was rebooked in for Friday.”
However that morning two members of their dental team became ill leading to the cancelling of some appointments on the last day of service. Due to the limited private dentists in remote area, patients who need further treatment should book in with the NW HHS, she said.
The mobile dental unit will visit Camooweal later in 2017 on a date to be confirmed.
