"I'm a bit of a - I'll call myself a groupie," she said.

Ms Clarke, from Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, admitted the True Grit Enduro event might seem like a crazy way to get into endurance events, but she could not get enough of them.

"You're racing through the deep dark of the night and the really cold early morning until the sun comes up," she said.

"As sadistic as that sounds that's what draws a lot of people to it, because you learn a lot about yourself when you're out there in the deep dark pits.

"So (it) probably was a little bit extreme but still a lot of fun."

Since then, she has competed in seven True Grit events, making her a Gold Medal holder.

Next week, Ms Clarke planned to do three events back to back - True Grit, in Brisbane on Saturday, August 19, the Sunshine Coast Marathon on the Sunday, and then the Spartan event in Adelaide the following weekend.

"You put your body through a fair amount of work in that time," she said.

"I'm coming up 37 and the body is not bouncing back like it used to."

Despite advice from her physio to take it easier, Ms Clarke said she won't stop doing obstacle events.

"It's like turning up to a family dinner when you see the guys, you turn up and you know a majority of the crew ... and you're just one of them, it makes the whole day fun."

While she said she trained five days a week for these events, Ms Clarke said a general overall fitness was all anyone needed to compete in an obstacle race.

"I think everybody has a capability to do an obstacle course event," she said.

"There's obviously mental challenges that you have to get over, there's also physical challenges you have to get over.

"Strength is certainly a huge part, but all the obstacles are achievable."
