On Monday, more of the Gold Coast's experienced players put Henry's case forward, with Origin prop Jarrod Wallace and Kiwi international Kevin Proctor downplaying suggestions of a fall-out with Jarryd Hayne.

They're not able to downplay the poor results that have left them without a win since round 19 and third-last on the ladder. But that, they said, was down to their own shabby performances, not the direction of the coach.

Whether the board agrees remains to be seen. Already, the NRL-owned club has looked into the details of a pay-out for Henry, although the financials surrounding Hayne's $1.2 million per season deal may also have been raised.

The Titans are obliged to keep the NRL in the loop in their decision-making process but with the club now unable to escape the drama generated by last Monday's emergency board meeting, the clock is ticking louder than ever.

Henry has been stoic under the sharp glare of the spotlight. Less than an hour after the board meeting ended, he was dealing with reports that he was about to be given his marching orders by chief executive Graham Annesley.

Captain Ryan James gave an impassioned defence of Henry after the club's most recent defeat at the hands of the Eels, while Proctor insisted Henry was the popular choice among a playing group that has struggled to be competitive since a 54-0 flogging by the Broncos.

"I reckon he's the right man for the job ... we're all backing him as players and I'm hoping the board does that too," Proctor said.

"He's been getting hammered by the press and I feel sorry for him. Our bad performances have been backlashing on him and he doesn't deserve it."

An injured Hayne has managed to keep his head down - to the extent where even his own teammates weren't aware if he was at the game or not - while Henry has done his best to suggest the pair can work together next season.

"He [Hayne] is a great player and we benefit from having both [he and Henry] at the club," Proctor said. "Hopefully they can sort out their differences but I don't think there's much there to sort out.

"It's been a bit of a media twist up to be honest and I'm sure they can work it out."

Hayne travelled to Sydney and was out to dinner with former Eels teammate Corey Norman the night before the game. His adviser Wayne Beavis insists he was there to support his team, although Wallace wasn't able to confirm a sighting.

"I don't think he was there, not that I saw. I think he was down, with an injury to his foot, trying to get ready for this week," Wallace said. "His manager says he was, but nobody saw him...

"That's all right, do we have to see him? He wasn't in the 18. I'm sure he was supporting us wherever he was. He probably wanted to stay away from all the cameras.

"He wasn't playing, so if he was there with cameras everywhere [it] might have taken focus off the team. I don't think it really matters."

Proctor, James and hooker Nathan Peats took it upon themselves to speak up for Henry, going to see Annesley last week to press their case for his retention.

"We went there [to meet Annesley] by ourselves and said what we wanted to say, spoke for the players and told him our side of the story," Proctor said. "We had a good yarn and got our point across.

"A new coach means we'd have to start from the bottom again to do that rebuilding phase again ... we're backing him and hoping for a positive result."

Wallace said Hayne was well-liked by his fellow players and he hoped the Blues centre was at the club in 2018, along with Henry.

"Of course we like him and want him to stay. I'm glad that he took up his two-year option and I'm looking forward to playing with him next year.

"All this stuff that you're reading in the paper now is all speculation and I haven't heard one thing come from any of the players that we don't want him here or don't want Neil here."
