The winner between the two leading women teams in the season play in the grand final on September 8. The losing team still has a chance by playing the winner of the match between Parkside and Tigers. 

Roos and the Bulls have played each other four times during the season – each having won two games. Roos captain Sarah Astbury said her team’s wins had happened later in the season, and Roos had also claimed the minor premiership. 

“We never underestimate our opponents but we always come out confident in our fitness, our skills,” she said. 

When asked what the Roos’ strategy might be coming into the finals, Astbury said, “we are not going to change anything that has been working because we have won our last nine games in a row. 

“What we have been fine tuning is obviously working so far. 

“If it is not broken, we are not going to fix it.” 

She said that the Bulls were skillful opponents. “We always have to bring our best game against them to make sure we can do our best to secure a win.” 

Tigers captain Danielle Slade knows the team cannot lose the game against Parkside if they wish to reach the grand final. Yet she hoped that Parkside brought their strongest side.

“I like playing teams that don’t give up and keep sticking it to you until the end,” Slade said. 

“I will never be disappointed with a win but you would like the other team to know you won fair and squarely.”

Slade said she hoped her team just played “their own game” by doing the simple things well. 

“If we can focus on our game and playing football we have got a big chance at winning.” 

Tigers had not had such a strong season, having been fourth on the ladder. Slade said this was due to injuries and players being away. “We are a strong team if we have got all the players there,” she said. 

She said the competition between the teams the next three weekends would be strong. 

“I am hoping we get up. I have got my fingers crossed,” Slade said.
