Prince Frederik and his entourage were turned away from Jade Buddha, in the CBD's upmarket Eagle Street Pier precinct, just before midnight on Friday but returned 15 minutes later with the Queensland Police Service's dignitary protection unit.

The police officers reportedly told the venue they had permission from the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation to let them skip the laws.

Ms D'Ath said if the reports were correct, the bar applied the law equally to Prince Frederick as it would to anyone else.

"The prince obviously did not take great offence to this as he returned a short time later and was granted entry," Ms D'Ath told Parliament on Tuesday.

"The government is not aware of any complaints made by the prince or his protection unit.

"The fact is this has not caused a diplomatic incident as some would have you believe."

Ms D'Ath said the ID scanning system had stopped offenders on banning orders accessing venues on 76 occasions, while 1.4 million people had entered licensed venues in "safe night precincts" since the start of July.

"We will never truly know how many lives are saved and how many assaults we stop by having these scanners in place, but knowing that parents are more likely to have their child come home safe because they are there, is worth it," she said.

Earlier, a spokeswoman for Ms D'Ath denied liquor office bureaucrats were called to help get the Danish royal into the bar.

"The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation has no knowledge or notification of this incident occurring," she said.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said it showed nobody was above the law in Queensland.

"People need to be scanned, I think that Prince Frederik would have understood that," she said.

"Maybe they didn't recognise him, could be one of the reasons, but I think the ID scanners have been in my electorate for many, many, many years.

"I'm sure he wouldn't have minded."

Ms Grace said she was not sure what would happen when Prince Charles and Camilla visited Queensland for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

"But maybe they'll have their IDs and have no problems at all," she said.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said Queenslanders liked the idea that everyone, regardless of whether they were a prince or an average person, would be treated the same under the law.

Mr Dick said tourists would be educated about Queensland's liquor laws ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls told a joke in Parliament: "Have you heard the one where a Danish prince walks into a Queensland bar?"

"You know what, Mr Speaker, he doesn't, he can't even get in the door," he said.

Mr Nicholls questioned whether Crown Prince Frederik would have met his Australian wife Princess Mary, who he met in a bar, under the Queensland laws.

The couple met at Sydney's Slip Inn bar during the 2000 Olympics.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson said Labor's incompetence was now on show for the "world to see".

Deputy Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington said the incident would cost Queensland's reputation.

"Forget the Battle of Brisbane, it's the bungle of Brisbane and it's costing all Queenslanders," she said.
