Taylor has signed a four-year deal to join the Wolfpack, who are pushing to gain promotion to the English Super League.

But he's expressed hesitations to fellow Raiders players about the distance a long-term move to Canada would put between him and his daughters in Brisbane.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said he was yet to have any formal discussions with Taylor about the possibility of remaining in Canberra, but would do so in the coming days to try and help make it happen.

Stuart said Taylor's desire to make his family his priority rather than football was one of the reasons he brought him to Canberra in the first place.

Taylor's move to the Green Machine this season was sparked by a chance meeting at Sydney airport last year when the 29-year-old was set to work in the mines.

The former Queensland Origin star has played 10 games for the Raiders so far this season and has hit form after injury and illness cruelled the first half of the year.

Canberra's clash against the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne on Saturday was set to be his last in lime green before joining the Wolfpack, but that could now change.

"I haven't had a formal chat with David yet, but I know he's been talking to the players about having some hesitations now it's getting closer for it to happen," Stuart told Fairfax Media on Thursday.

"He's enjoying his time here in Canberra, being happy and comfortable, and the fact that he's really worried about leaving his daughters.

"His words to me were 'Football's not my priority, my daughters are' and that's one of the main reasons I got David to reconsider him going back to the mines and coming back and trying to get his career going again.

"That's as far as I know where it's at at the moment, given David's talking to the other players I'll sit down and talk to him next week, try and get something knuckled out."

Stuart has been put forward as the ideal replacement for sacked NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley and Raiders captain Jarrod Croker said Stuart could handle the additional role of Blues coach if he was appointed.

But he's signed with the Raiders until the end of 2020 and while he hadn't thought about the job, Croker said Stuart had a similar passion for the Blues as he did for the Raiders.

"I'm sure he'd handle it. That's out of my control, it's not my decision. No one's said anything about it, to be honest, so until something actually happens then there's not much we can talk about it," Croker said.

"But I'm sure he'd handle that role and as we know how passionate he is about Canberra he's just as much about NSW."

Stuart said a chat with Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy had convinced him he needed to go back to being "the old Ricky Stuart" ahead of the two mates going head to head in Melbourne on Saturday.

But Croker said rather than being "cranky or aggressive", his mentor had simply been "enthusiastic" in recent weeks - although he joked that might change during the pre-season.

"You'll have to ask me about the middle of November-December and I'll let you know," he laughed.

"He's been - not cranky or aggressive - he's been enthusiastic. He wears his heart on his sleeve.

"The last six weeks we've all had to be better, just to keep our season alive and we all were - that's from Ricky to the people at the front office - we all had to be better and we all did ... but we're still disappointed and extremely unhappy with not being able to play finals football."

Meanwhile, the Raiders confirmed the signing of New Zealand Warriors prop Charlie Gubb on Thursday.

He will join them on a one-year deal, with the Raiders having the option to extend that for a season.
