CONCERNS over the accuracy of the census data for Pioneer in Mount Isa suburb first raised by Father Mick Lowcock, have led to the Australian Bureau of Statistics agreeing to revisit the suburb. At a meeting with Father Mick and Mount Isa MP Robbie Katter on Wednesday the ABS agreed the data was incomplete.

“This is a great result”, Mr Katter said. “Census data is a vital tool for government of all levels to determine funding for projects and the availability of funding for various programs.”
“It’s vital that this data is accurate. I’m pleased that the ABS has heard our concerns and will endeavour to rectify the situation.
Father Mick Lowcock dentified a problem with the data in a region with a high Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander population.
“I’m pleased that the ABS has agreed to take another look,” Father Mick said.
