Powell will suit up for the Ainslie Tricolours alongside older brother Tom in the AFL Canberra grand final against the Belconnen Magpies at Manuka Oval on Sunday.

It's got their mum, dad and their brother excited - perhaps even more so than the prospect of Powell being picked up in the AFL draft in November.

The brothers have only played a handful of games together and while he's loved every one of them, Powell hopes this is the last one because he's got his eye on the bright lights of the AFL.

"It's all so exciting as well to play alongside my brother," Powell said.

"I've always wanted to do that since I moved to do that since I moved over to Ainslie and we finally get to do it together in a grand final again. It's just exciting stuff.

"[It would be great] to really cap off the year with a premiership with him, hopefully we have a great day for the club as well, but also for myself and my brother.

"We'll give it a red hot crack and we'll hopefully get a win. It would be a good way to finish off my career hopefully here in Canberra.

"Hopefully I have a long career in the AFL if I get picked up so it'll be a good way to leave home, with a first grade premiership with my brother. That'd be good."

Powell sparkled on debut in the preliminary final and he's looking to add a premiership flag to his resume ahead of the AFL draft combine in October.

It was his first game of first grade for Ainslie after he spent the year playing for the Canberra Demons in the NEAFL, which qualifies him for the AFL Canberra finals.

There's no doubt an AFL Canberra premiership medallion would look good alongside the one he earned for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the NEAFL last year.

The Lake Ginninderra student was one of 83 players named for the AFL draft combine, where he will look to impress recruiters from all 18 AFL clubs in Melbourne from October 3-6.

He's been a member of the Giants academy since he was 12 and his time in the AFL academy took him to a camp in the United States last January.

It's a long way from his hometown of Canberra and the place he spent most of his formative years in Launceston, but Powell enjoys life in the big smoke.

It's why the under 18 Allies star is so desperate to knock off his former junior club and make it a memorable farewell to the capital.

Ainslie have the rare chance to claim the premiership trifecta of first grade, second grade and Rising Stars wins in successive years.
