Buffs beat the Lake Nash Bats in a thrilling match by just two points at Legends Oval on Saturday.
The final score was Buffs 8-10 (58 points) to Lake Nash 8-8 (56 points), a similar margin to when the sides met in July.
Captain Evan Magnus was thrilled with the win and immensely proud of his team.
“What a grand final, we couldn’t ask for anything better than that,” Magnus said.
“It’s a long time – I was only one year old, there were seven blokes who wouldn’t have even have been born yet.
“There’s two life members down here today, they’re still here 22 years later, they both played in the last premierships in ‘94 or ‘95.
“It just shows you what backing and what value the club has. With people like that around, it’s only going to lead to success down the track,” Magnus said.
Halfback Jason McKane scored the final two points in the game.
“Words can't describe it, it’s unreal. A few of the old boys are still around so it’s really special to be able to win it for them,” McKane said.
Charlie Johnson took out the Leo White Memorial goal-kicking medal, while Alistair Baker and Evan Magnus took out second and third place in the Cargill Medal for League Best and Fairest.
Magnus said the team had had the best training runs of the year last week, with the best attendance and enthusiasm levels that were “through the roof”.
He puts the within a whisker win down to staying cool when it counted.
“We started out really well in the first half, and even in the second half, our composure was just second to none,” Magnus said.
“To slow the ball down, control the game, take their momentum away when they were screaming home, really, weren’t they?
“They beat us until the last quarter, but for us to keep our composure in the final few minutes, that’s definitely what did it, everyone keeping a level head,” he said.
Buffaloes were also minor premiers for 2017.
