On Sunday, September 3, from 8am to 2pm riders took to the dusty track, located just past Mount Isa Airport.
Round 4 of the club series featured riders of all ages, from the young pee-wees in the Division 1 Demonstration class to the more mature age riders in the Veterans class.
Trent Love of Mount Isa Dirt Bike Club said the finals day went very smoothly.
“We had great racing throughout all the classes and everyone had fun. We had no incidents and no major injuries, and it was a good way to finish off the season with all the riders coming together,” Love said.
Pee-wee riders aged 4 – 7 years old had a class of around 25 kids, riding for practise and enjoyment in this non-competitive class.
“They still treat it like a race even though we tell them it’s not a race. As soon as the gate comes down they are off,” Love said.
The junior class for ages 9-12 on 65cc bikes was won by Mitchell Hartwig.
In the 9 – 12 junior class on 85cc bikes, Bailey Heatherington took first place.
For junior 85cc ages 12 – 15 years old, Mitchell Corrigan was the fastest.
Junior lites 13 – 16 years old was won by Alex Heatherington.
The senior quad class was won by the only out-of-town rider, Cody Lincoln from Bedourie, who has just come back from a racing stint in America.
