It’s about the work they do behind the scenes, according to Mount Isa Entertainment and Tourism Venues entertainment manager Bec Dent.
This includes the work from the Mount Isa Mens’ Shed. The local community group has built a wood stage that is 1.4 metres in diametre. It’s going to be used for entertainer David Splatt.
Splatt will present ‘Vaudeville in a Suitcase’ on this stage near the Buchanan Park entry. This will include a flea circus and puppetry.
“It’s a very whimsical performance for young and old," Ms Dent said.
Mount Isa Mens Shed representative Richard Lane said that he heard Mount Isa Entertainment and Tourism Venues – owned by the city council - was looking for a stage. So the shed was keen to make it.
“Between you and me, it’s like an invite from the Queen, doing something for the council,” Mr Lane said.
“If we can help. We can’t always do it but if we can help...we are always looking for things we can help out with if we can.”
A sponsor supplied the group with a pile of pallets for material.
It took about eight hours to complete the project, Mr Lane said.
The Isa Outback Fringe Festival is held at Buchanan Park on Friday, September 15, and Saturday, September 16.
Splatt performs at 8pm on the Friday night, and at 4pm, 6.30pm and 9.15pm on the Saturday.
The Mount Isa Mens Shed is open on Thursdays and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm.
