Detectives were allegedly following up their investigations into the 1997 murder of Gold Coast businessman Philip Carlyle, when they found the firearms and ammunition buried in barrels, tubes and buckets on a property 20 minutes outside the town.
The officers were alleged on August 5 to have found 11 handguns, two AR-15 rifles with automatic components, three rifle barrels and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
A 66-year-old Reedy Creek man has been charged with major firearms offences relating to the possession of illegal firearms, and failure to secure ammunition properly. He was due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
Mr Carlyle was shot dead in an airconditioning plant room at his Robina office in April 1997.
In June, Mr Carlyle's former business partner Neil Pentland, 69, was arrested and charged with murder.
Later mechanic John Hitchen was charged with accessory after the fact, with police alleging he gave the accused killer the gun and disposing of it after the crime.
