The racing happened in the Dinner In The Round Yard event which was held at the Mount Isa and District Pony Club last Saturday night.
The club’s secretary Kate Brewster said that 120 guests attended the function. Local businesses had donated raffle prizes and there had been seven sponsors including from several cattle stations.
“They played a massive part in making the night a success,” Mrs Brewster said.
The hobby horses were designed by artist, and the club’s chief instructor, Rowena Murphy. They were then auctioned off. Each table needed to bid on a horse and nominate a jockey from their table.
They rode through the heats and then ended with a grand final. The winning hobby horse was won by Fifty Shades of Neigh. The jockey was Kyra McCluskey.
BullDust performed at the event and managed to get the attendees dancing.
The event is an important fundraiser for the club.
“We are only a small club, 30 members, and so obviously any fundraiser for the club means we can get coaches from outside town,” Mrs Brewster said.
“We can upgrade our facilities, buy new equipment to stay up-to-date, and ensure our instructors are well educated and that they stay current with their teaching qualifications, which means compliance for our club.”
