Steph had a special need for air-con beyond just the normal wanting the family to be cool in the hot day’s of summer.
On July 29 Steph’s son Matthew was out with friends when someone poured metho onto a campfire leaving him with burns to one-fifth of his body.
Matthew is not sure exactly how it happened but it has left him needing to be in a burns suit for 23 hours a day.
Mum Steph wanted a small aircon for his room and a larger one for the lounge room.
Donna McCormack of ART said when they came to the Huhs’ house they found the switchboard needed an upgrade to cope with the larger 8KW air conditioning unit for the loungeroom, a cost beyond Steph’s budget.
“Knowing Matthew was a burn victim we thought we would get a bit of help,” Donna said.
“So people donated the materials to do the switchboard upgrade, they donated the 8KW air conditioner and the boys donated all their time. The community spirit of Mount Isa is amazing.”
Employees of ART and Bear Instrumentation donated their time on a Saturday morning to install a new switchboard and the air con unit. All material was supplied by Haymans Electrical, IPD, B&R, ART and Bear Instrumentation.
Steph said she was lost for words when Donna called her in to discuss the quote.
“It just means everything, it means Matthew won’t be confined to his bedroom during those humid months,” she said.
“He’ll be about to come out in the lounge room and do his physio wherever he wants to do it.”
