Tomorrow marks the first day in a week long salute to Cloncurry as it notches up 150 years since its establishment.
Cloncurry will proudly host a number of events, including a street parade and party, family fun sports day rodeo, ball and race meet just to name a few with locals and visitors encouraged to get out and get involved with marking the milestone.
Cloncurry mayor Greg Campbell said with so much to do, the week is a chance not only for the town to shine, but for the community to continue to connect with everything that makes it special.
“Have an awesome time, catching up with old friends, making new ones and living the ‘Cloncurry friendly heart motto,” he said.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Australian music legend Troy Cassar-Daley perform, as well as celebrate everything Cloncurry as C150 celebrations kick off.
The Ernest Henry Mining Street Parade and Party will begin at 6pm on Friday, September 15 in Scarr Street.
Line the streets to see the floats and best dressed premises which will be decorated to the them ‘Past, Present and Future’.
After cheering on those involved, an official welcome and judging will take place, followed by the Cloncurry Song. From 8.30pm Golden Guitar winner Troy Cassar-Daley will thrill the crowd, followed by Chicko and the Breakaways and Penny Burke from 9.45pm.
There is plenty to do including kids activities and food and bar facilities. Entry is free.
Riding the wave from the carnival feel of the Ernest Henry Mining Street Parade and Party, residents will experience a weekend of fun with the Dajarra Rodeo and Campdraft on Saturday, followed by a revival of games of yesteryear.
On Sunday, September 17 the Cloncurry Recreation Ground will host a family fun day of old school games including nail driving, bush ironman, the older timers race, and what is expected to be a highly competitive game of tug-of-war.
Pack the family a picnic lunch and enjoy an afternoon, before the grounds become a outdoor movie theatre from 7pm.
You’re also invited to a night at the museum exploring Cloncurry’s history, which will travel between John Flynn Place and Cloncurry Unearthed; don your best dress or outfit for the C150 Spring Race Meet on Saturday, September 23 ; and continue the celebration by attend the South32 C150 ‘Best of the West’ Rodeo, which follows on from the races.
C150 celebrations also give you the chance to see ‘behind the scenes’ of some of Cloncurry’s businesses and organisations.
Take a tour of the town with the Cloncurry Historical Society and discover the Ernest Henry Mine – Glencore through a special tour on September 19.
Cloncurry State School and St Joseph’s will also host tours.
