Mine owners New Century Resources hosted visitors from the Peruvian precious metals miner, Hochschild Mining.
The visit, sponsored by the Commonwealth Government’s Trade and Investment Commission, gave the visitors the opportunity to inspect the site and learn about New Century Resources’ model for economic rehabilitation.
Jose Palma, Hochschild’s General Counsel and VP of Corporate Affairs, and David Vexler, the company’s General Manager for the Environment are visiting mine sites around the country to observe Australian services and technologies in the field of mine closure.
The focus of the visit is the management of tailings dams and waste rock dumps, with an interest in progressive mine closure planning, tailings management, tailings dam and waste dump closure.
New Century Resources’ Site Senior Executive, Barry Harris said it was a great opportunity to share their model for economic rehabilitation with the overseas visitors.
“Hochschild Mining has a significant mining footprint in South America, and with a global headquarters in London, it has been a pleasure to demonstrate New Century Resources’ model for rehabilitating the Century Mine in a manner that generates economic activity and will deliver benefits for the community beyond the mine’s original expected operating life.” Mr Harris said.
New Century Resources recently announced the commencement of a feasibility study into the recommencement of economic activity at the Century Mine with a view to recommencing operations in late-2018.
