Harron, whose horses are trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, decided to go with stablemate Redzel, who becomes the sixth horse locked in for the 1200-metre race.

Triple Crown's Michael Ward was delighted to secure a slot. It means the son of Snitzel will run in Saturday's The Shorts and miss the group 1 Moir Stakes.

"He was only a $120,000 buy and the people that are in would not even dream of running in a race like this," Ward said. "It didn't exist, so it is a dream result.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for us and he is just getting better every preparation.

"We are very excited and think he will run well."

Harron wanted to confirm his runner with the race only a month away.

"I was surprised Redzel had not been taken before now and I wanted to lock a horse sooner rather than later," Harron said. "Our horses Pariah and Dracarys are going to the Golden Rose and looking for 1400 metres to a mile, so we had to find a horse and I think we have the right horse."
