LEGAL Aid Queensland has denied representing a Mount Isa man who is charged with dangerous operation of a jet-ski which caused the death of his son last year.

The reason is that Shane Parkes, 34, has a financial income above Legal Aid Queensland’s threshold, said solicitor Rhianna Batt.
Mr Parkes was disputing Legal Aid’s decision by appealing, she said.
Ms Batt asked the Mount Isa magistrate for an adjournment of one month when speaking to the court on Wednesday.
Magistrate James Morton agreed to the adjournment date of Friday, October 13. Mr Parkes has related matters due in the Supreme Court. which Mr Morton considered when determining how to extend Mr Parkes’s bail.
Mr Parkes was first arrested and charged in January for charges involving a jet-ski crash that happened at Lake Moondarra last November. It was alleged he had been affected by drugs when crashing the jet-ski which hit his nine-year-old son Tobi on the bank of the junction.
In January his legal representative, Anderson Telford, told the court Mr Parkes had a jumping castle business which suffered “a significant downturn” due to the negative publicity. Police also confiscated his mobile phone.
Mr Parkes had been on bail for drug trafficking matters when he rode the jet-ski. He was among more than 20 people investigated under police operations North Caliper and Oscar Lake – based in Mount Isa and Cairns.
Several other people accused of being part of the alleged syndicate appeared in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Wednesday – including Kayne Gerard Slann, Sirinton Subprathueng, Stacey Claire Best, and Robert Adam Cherrington.
