With not a drop of rain to be found in north west Queensland at the same time this year there was never any chance of it being postponed in 2017.
That was great news for Dajarra, 150km south of Mount Isa, but also for the shire of Cloncurry and the rodeo was an important part of the C150 celebrations which kicked off in Cloncurry town on Friday.
Many came down from Cloncurry as well as Isa and many other parts so a good crowd of locals and travellers was in for three days of gymkhana, rodeo and campdraft action and while the results were not available at the time of going to press it was clear everyone was having a good time.
The grounds were in good shape and while there was a slight delay to start of the rodeo no one seemed to mind and it gave the campdrafters more time in the limelight before the action moved to the rodeo arena.
The youngsters didn’t miss out and they had happy smiles on their faces as they were awarded their prizes for their performances in the gymkhana.
A shade area and grandstand was made for the rodeo arena, as well as more area cleared for campers to spread out.
A straw poll of the crowd found that most were looking forward to the greasy pig event later that evening.
