Brisbane's 17-strong squad is still up in the air after they returned to training on Monday. Injured fullback Darius Boyd was among those missing but it was due to a personal issue, not his hamstring, and he remains on track to return.

Much of the focus will fall on powerhouse winger Corey Oates, who was knocked unconscious in the win over Penrith after colliding with teammate Anthony Milford. Such was the concern that play was halted immediately while medical staff rushed to his side.

He was up and about after the match and coach Wayne Bennett wasted little time in saying he would be fit for the elimination clash with the Storm at AAMI Park.

But Bennett has been off the mark on that front before. Earlier in the season, he had backed hooker Andrew McCullough to return the following week after being knocked senseless against the Tigers. He missed the game.

Oates didn't train with the main group on Monday at Red Hill and was restricted to the lightest of duties. When he first emerged, he was sporting headgear for comic relief but was was wearing joggers, not boots, indicating his level of involvement.

He would appear to be long odds to take the field and will undergo the required concussion protocols during the week, with the final call to be made by Dr Hackney. The NRL will be privy to the process and the results of any tests.

Benji Marshall said he hoped Oates would play and that he was feeling far better than the day after the game.

"He is walking around in circles with head gear on so it is probably not a good sign," Marshall laughed. "But I think he is playing.

"The collision looked a lot worse judging by the way he is feeling at the moment. He looks a lot better today than he did before.

"Hopefully he is on track to play because he is a big asset for us."

Oates' fellow winger Jordan Kahu wasn't quite as bullish, saying he saw Oates 'snoring' on the turf in the wake of the incident.

"It was scary," he said. "I went over and had a look at him snoring away on the ground. It was pretty upsetting seeing him going off on a stretcher."

"He seemed all right after the game and I am sure he will do everything this week to get up for the game. But it's a tough situation.

"Any other part of the body you can try and push but it's pretty serious [head knocks] - you don't want to be stuffing around with those kind of things."

Bench forward Jai Arrow was another that left the field following a concussion and he too must prove to medical staff he can return to the field. Sam Thaiday is in the same boat although he spoke after the game and his incident looked less serious than the other pair.
