The club has stocked up with beer – with treasurer-secretary Richard Norris having done a beer run to Sydney to collect Betoota Bitter on tap – and is ready to host social bowling in an event sponsored by Chinova Resources.
Teams can nominate from 6pm for the small social tournament. “It will be great to see teams,” Mr Norris said. “Teachers versus nurses, police versus firies.
“We are having a grand opening ceremony to thank Glencore for sponsorship of the bowls ramp.”
The club also flies in Shayne Barwick from Brisbane. He had raised money for the disability ramp by bowling a record 73 hours in January. Mr Barwick was at the mayoral luncheon last week bur returned to the south east.
The club also holds a black tie barefoot evening during and after the C150 Ball on Friday night.
“It’s more of a kind of a night less about barefoot bowling and more about feeling flash in a different kind of location,” Mr Norris said.
The dress code was flexible.
“It could be full black tie. I have guys wearing tuxedo on top and floral shorts. We’re here to party in style but we know how to have fun.”
Mr Norris said the club wanted to be involved with the C150 celebrations. It was not sure about having its own barefoot bowls night timed with the C150 ball at first but council approved of the idea – especially considering tickets had sold out.
“It’s a major milestone for the town and the community. We definitely wanted to talk an opportunity to host an event.”
