She broke her hip when she fell on the floor on Saturday, April 1.
The victim had been a former partner of the man when he pushed her when her back was turned. He then stood over her but walked away when a witness reprimanded him, the Mount Isa District Court heard last week.
The court heard he had a criminal history which included failing domestic violence orders against four different women.
The man pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm.
Judge David Reid sentenced the defendant to two and a half years in prison. The man would be released on parole after serving eight months and considering the custody he already served would be eligible for release in December.
“I hope you learn from it,” Judge Reid told the defendant. “If you’re going to resort to violence, especially violence of women, you’re going to be dealt with more and more severely.”
The defendant’s domestic violence court order in relation to the victim was also more restricted.
He was no longer allowed to contact her.
