Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the region will receive a $15.25m investment for community infrastructure. “Councils in the North West have told us this will support 660 local jobs,” Ms Trad said.
“Important community projects like the CBD revitalisation work in Mount Isa will also be great for local families and for making the community an even better place to live and work.”
Mount Isa City Council will receive $2.91m for five projects including CBD revitalisation work to increase business in the city centre and an upgrade of Camooweal Hall.
Boulia Shire Council will receive $1.03m for 12 projects including Airport fencing installation at Urandangie and refurbishment of the Boulia Post Office.
Burke Shire Council will receive $1.18m for nine projects including installation of solar lighting and CCTV at the Burketown boat ramp and a construction of a spectator facility at Gregory showgrounds.
Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council will receive $1.44m for three projects including construction of a toilet and shade structure at the town cemetery and improvement works to Potter and Knott Streets.
Flinders Shire Council will receive $1.1m for three projects including the Hughenden CBD rejuvenation to improve tourism prospects.
Carpentaria Shire Council will receive $1.71m for four projects including sealing of the Gilbert boat ramp carpark that will allow year round access.
Diamantina Shire Council will receive $1.02m for four projects including various local road improvements and floodway rehabilitation.
Cloncurry Shire Council will receive $1.37m for five projects including upgrading the Cloncurry Childcare Centre and reconstruction and reseal of local roads.
Mornington Shire Council will receive $1.38m for four projects including construction of an animal pound and fit-out of the council store.
McKinlay Shire Council will receive $1.06m for six projects including construction of a bush dinner hut at the council owned Caravan Park to support tourism and construction of shade structures at local playgrounds.
Richmond Shire Council will receive $1.05m for 14 projects including construction of shade structures over the waterpark and a new concrete path around the lake.
