Treasurer Cara Mearns said the committee concentrated on simplicity and raising much-needed funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which netted them $1370 for the cause.

“It’s great that these B&S balls are coming back,” she said.

“It’s not just about single eligible people anymore – it’s also a great event for all 18-plus people to come along to and get all dressed up.

“As these formal events are very few in the area it brings something different for the community rather just the usual races.”

The ball begin in 1989 and has been through its ups and downs, reviving when a founding member took a walk down memory lane and decided to bring it back.

“It’s been a fantastic event added to the Richmond calendar each year,” Cara said.

The tug-of-war challenge was a raging success this year, along with the Bachelor and Bachelorette auction.

The local Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association branch managed the bar and the Lions Club did the catering, while everyone danced the night away to Jason Clark & the Bar Chords from Townsville.

Legend has it that a number of current Richmond couples began their relationship at the ball. Was the legend true to form this year? Only time will tell!
