Mayor Greg Campbell said the terminal had been placed into care and maintenance a year ago. He said the upgrade was needed to transport product from MMG’s Dugald River mine.
“At this stage the process is moving along as it should,” Cr Campbell said.
“It is reassuring to know that Aurizon is committed to having staff employed locally.”
MMG’s General Manager Dugald River Project Delivery Mr Pierre Malan said product will be transported by road to Cloncurry, railed to Townsville, and craned onto ships, according to a Port of Townsville press release.
Aurizon was reached for comment to confirm the application and if there were job opportunities.
