Ergon Energy will investigate the incident.
Power was cut to parts of Mount Isa from 3pm on Thursday. Power flickered several times before it stopped for half an hour during 35 degree heat.
More than 900 Ergon Energy customers in suburbs including Menzies, Mornington, Mount Isa City, The Gap and Winston. Traffic lights were still functioning.
An Ergon Energy spokesman said an electrician reported a stick on power lines in Isa Street in an area without trees.
“Throwing objects into power lines is dangerous and could result in an injury or fatality,” he said.
“Anyone seeing objects being thrown into powerlines should call Ergon on 132 296.”
