But she's more than just a sharp shooter who'll play a pivotal role for Diamond Creek in their VFLW grand final against arch rivals Darebin at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. She's shown more than a touch of defensive versatility too.

In round 10 of the VFLW season Molloy played a key role tagging Carlton AFLW superstar Brianna Davey, which went a long way to "the Creekers" beating Davey's St Kilda Sharks. Initially, Molloy said, she was "star struck" lining up against the former Matildas goalkeeper and AFLW State of Origin representative.

"But then I put on the professional cap the day of the game," Molloy said. "So I thought 'well I have been given a role, my coach backs me to do this, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain'.

"And I knew that, but it was Bri Davey, she is one of the best AFLW players so I was a bit nervous, but so excited. I had never played as a tagger before, I had no idea what to do. I was going on instinct. I kind of was taught how to position my body but was actually winging it."

To win the VFLW goal-kicking award Molloy trumped AFLW stars like Katie Brennan, Jasmine Garner, Darcy Vescio, Moana Hope and Christina Bernardi. That achievement on its own is remarkable for an 18-year-old.

But the feat becomes even more staggering when you realise that before Molloy lined up for the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup in March (prior to playing for Diamond Creek in the VFLW from May) she hadn't played footy since the age of 13.

Her stunning 2017 has seen her touted as a top three pick in October's 2017 AFLW draft, but first Molloy - who played basketball from age 13 to 18 - wants to win a premiership on Sunday.

"I am so excited," Molloy told Fairfax Media. "It is a dream to play in a grand final but then to add playing it at Etihad Stadium on top of that makes me want to pinch myself.

"I never had to juggle both sports, I really only devoted myself to basketball. But I wasn't enjoying basketball as much. Having a sport that you devote yourself to and you're loving, I couldn't ask for anything better coming back to footy."

Molloy played basketball for the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL. She also turned down a basketball scholarship at a United States college. She's chosen to give up basketball unlike her Calder Cannons teammate and fellow top AFLW draft prospect Monique Conti, who will continue to juggle WNBL and footy.

She said she felt playing footy would give her a better chance at making a career from sport than basketball would, and that her teammates at Diamond Creek have been crucial in helping her make a smooth transition.

"To be mature about things is something I have learnt from them, and dealing with all the things that come with playing football. I am young so amongst all these older players like Steph [Chiocci] and she has just really emphasised with me to stay level-headed.

"Coming up against AFLW names in the VFLW she tells me to not worry about that and treat them like just another competitor."

"Yeah, it might be Mel Hickey or Katie Brennan or Daisy Pearce but they're just another competitor to go out and beat. So she says just stay mature, be level-headed and do your thing."

Molloy's coach at Diamond Creek, Scott Gowans, said watching her develop had been "special".

"She is one of those players who comes along once in a coach's lifetime.

"She will be a super player at AFLW level no problem at all."

Darebin boast AFLW talent like Daisy Pearce, Aasta O'Connor, Katie Brennan, Lauren Arnell and Elise O'Dea while Diamond Creek have Chiocci, Laura Dureya, Lauren Morecroft and Alison Downie to name but a few.

Darebin and Diamond Creek have already played three times in 2017, with the rivals winning one each in the regular season and Diamond Creek taking out their last clash by 25-points in the semi-final two weeks ago.

That sent Diamond Creek straight through to the grand final while Darebin beat St Kilda (by five points) in a preliminary final to set up their fourth 2017 clash with the Creekers.

Molloy - the niece of Fitzroy, Brisbane Lions and Collingwood forward Jarrod Molloy - knows that like every other time Darebin have played Diamond Creek this year she'll have Western Bulldog Libby Birch "following me around holding my hand". And while she admits being tagged was tough initially, she is keen for the challenge on Sunday.

Outside of sport, Molloy studies sports media, writes a "Life of a Footballer" column for AFL Draft Central, works for AFL Victoria running kids footy clinics and at a cafe on weekends. She hopes to one day work in social media for a major sports team.
