The pair enter next Sunday's grand final with 44 tries between them in this year's NRL competition after Addo-Carr raced away for his 21st of the season during Melbourne's 30-0 preliminary final defeat of Brisbane.

In a demonstration of just how much of an impact the try-scoring juggernauts have made for Craig Bellamy's team on opposite sides of the field, records show that no pair of wingers have crossed as many times in a single season since 1957.

The extraordinary haul of Vunivalu and Addo-Carr places them equal fifth all-time among wing combinations with a match to play. According to league historian David Middleton, only two pairs have cracked the 50 try mark: Ray Preston and Kevin Considine, who collected 55 between them for Newtown in 1954, and Les Brennan and Ian Moir, who posted a combined 50 for South Sydney the same year.

Vunivalu was already a try-scoring machine for Melbourne, scoring 23 himself last season, but the addition of Addo-Carr from Wests Tigers has given the star-studded Storm yet another dimension out wide.

The 22-year-old was languishing in reserve grade at the Tigers during his rookie year in 2016 when Melbourne picked him up and he has not looked back since.

"I'm so grateful to be at this club," Addo-Carr said. "This club has really helped me and my family during the pre-season and stuff. I'm forever grateful.

"I was sort of umming and ahhing [about relocating to Melbourne] ... just moving away from family, that was the biggest thing, I suppose. But it was a no-brainer, I guess. It was the best decision I've ever made. I love playing in this team.

"I'm still pinching myself, actually. It's been a really good move for myself and my family."

Nicknamed "The Fox", it was his weaving run, after being set free by a great pass from centre Curtis Scott, that broke the back of a firm Broncos resistance two minutes before half-time on Friday night.

Despite their historic finishing prowess, Addo-Carr and Vunivalu are adamant it is others who deserve the credit for creating the chances for them to capitalise on.

"We can't do all that stuff without the forwards doing their job," said Addo-Carr, who this month signed a four-year contract extension that keeps him at AAMI Park until the end of the 2021 season. "When we get the ball we just do our best. It's the cherry on the cake, I suppose."

Vunivalu, who was re-signed at the same time to remain until at least 2020, had a golden opportunity to extend his personal tally further on Friday night but spilled the ball with the line in sight.

"We're just outside there doing the easy part," the 21-year-old said. "You've got to buy into the culture. That's our culture here. We look after each other. Without the boys in the middle you wouldn't get the try on the outside."
