Australian Traffic Network reporter Olympia Kwitowski said the Bruce Highway northbound was backed up about 15 kilometres by 11.30am on Sunday, with delays between Narangba and Caboolture.
A multi-vehicle crash just before midday through Narangba was expected to worsen conditions.
Meanwhile, two crashes in Slacks Creek saw southbound congestion stretch back nine kilometres to Eight Mile Plains.
Ms Kwitowski said there was also 13 kilometres of delays nearer to the Gold Coast, between Pimpama and Helensvale.
Earlier in the day, there was rain in Brisbane CBD, but it was not from the sky.
A burst water main outside Treasury Casino saw the closure of Elizabeth Street at the intersection with George Street, knocking three lanes out of action.
