Animal rights activists blockaded the Brisbane base of Lennon Brothers Circus on Sunday, protesting against what they describe as the "cruel and archaic" use of wild animals in the show.

Just more than 50 protesters gathered outside Mount Gravatt Showgrounds to voice their opposition at the family-run travelling circus.
An Animal Liberation Queensland spokeswoman, who wanted to be known only as Amanda, said the group opposed the capture and use of animals for entertainment and business.
"There are some circuses who use predominantly domestic animals, which we also oppose, but holding wild animals in captivity is especially cruel," she said.
Amanda said the public response had been "overwhelmingly positive" with passing cars honking to show their support and pedestrians stopping to hear what the activists had to say.
She added that only Ipswich and Gold Coast councils had banned circuses from their respective areas and Queensland was "very much behind the times regarding animal welfare".
Lennon Brothers Circus site manager Cheryl Lennon said the show did use four wild animals, three lions and a monkey, but said the activists were "misinformed".
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they (protesters) are misinformed with a lot of their quotes and there is no truth behind any of it," Ms Lennon said.
"They have been invited to come in and have a look because we have nothing to hide, but they're not interested in listening to us.
"There have been no charges of cruelty or mistreatment, so I think the protesters need to let the public vote with their feet because we make everyone aware that we use wild animals in the show."
