The recently struck collective bargaining agreement scored a relative bonanza for the 44 footballers selected on grand final day with a total of 10 tickets made available to every player ??? an extra four per player.
As part of the CBA negotiations AFL Players Association boss Paul Marsh and his team pushed for a total of 1400 grand final tickets to be released for senior-listed players across the competition.
The AFL ultimately allocated 1000 to be shared among the 820 senior players on a first-in, first-served basis with the competing players allocated the extra tickets ??? at cost ??? out of their club allocations.
Marsh said virtually all non-competing players who wanted tickets had ordered them before the start of the finals. Given travel and other holiday commitments Marsh said virtually all senior-listed players wanting to attend the game were given two tickets apiece.
Past incidents of players scalping tickets had led to a tighter rein being placed on those allocations with players required to pick up their reserved seat passes from AFLPA headquarters this week.
