The Queensland Labor government still has 50 election promises to deliver, but at least one educated observer believes that is unlikely to stop it from heading to the ballot box.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's government has completed 484 out of 553 - or 87 per cent - of the commitments it made before the 2015 election.
That left 50 commitments "in progress" and 19 "superseded".
The government is yet to hold a public inquiry into links, if any, between donations to political parties and the awarding of tenders, contracts and approvals - one of Speaker Peter Wellington's demands to allow Ms Palaszczuk to form a minority government.
Widening the definition of corrupt conduct is also yet to be ticked off with a bill still before Parliament.
The government wanted to protect the Great Barrier Reef by reinstating vegetation protection laws loosened by the Newman government.
But the commitment was "superseded" after the government failed to pass its tree-clearing laws in August 2016.
Environment Minister Steven Miles has previously promised to bring the laws back if Labor was elected with a majority.
On Monday, Acting Premier Curtis Pitt played down recent election speculation, pointing to the election promises yet to be delivered.
"There's a lot of speculation right now about the time of the election," Mr Pitt said.
"Let's just say that everyone should take a cold shower.
"We're getting on with the job of delivering for Queenslanders; we've still got election commitments that we've actually got to fulfil.
"...We've got work to do that we want to get done before we go to an election."
When asked if that was a "firm no" to the election being called next week, Mr Pitt said: "I can tell you it won't be called this week".
Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni teased the election would be called "very, very soon".
"In the next three to six months we'll see an election here in Queensland," Mr de Brenni said.
The election can be held as late as May 2018, but many expect it will be held in October or November this year. Or maybe in February 2018.
Ms Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and several ministers were on holidays, providing another reason it would be unlikely the election would be called this week.
However, Griffith University political scientist Paul Williams said a few leftover promises from the 2015 election would not stop Labor from going to the polls in the coming weeks.
"I don't think any government or any premier would use that as an excuse - not having completed their shopping list - should the opportunity present itself to be returned with electoral advantage," Dr Williams said.
Dr Williams said, regardless of the reality of the number of commitments delivered, there was a perception the Palaszczuk government was a "do nothing government".
"And that's because some of the runs have been in social policy, which for most voters are second-tier affairs," he said.
Despite some previous troubles, such as ministers being sacked and others, such as MPs Rob Pyne (Cairns) and Billy Gordon (Cook), leaving the party to become independents, Dr Williams said polling showed Labor was in a reasonable position.
"I don't think it will get any better, and it could in fact get a lot worse, so they'd be very wise to strike while the iron's hot," he said.
Dr Williams said the election could be called next week.
"I think there's a strong chance it'll be called next Monday or Tuesday," he said.
"I can't see an election going beyond late October, early November."
If Ms Palaszczuk went to see Governor Paul de Jersey on Tuesday next week, a minimum 26-day campaign would see the election held on Saturday, October 28.
Calling the election the following week would land the election date on Saturday, November 4, which has long been a popular prediction among political pundits.
