Chief executive Ben Milligan said that the additional funding was due to the corporate support in the lead-up to C150 celebrations held last week.
Mr Milligan said that the sponsorship drive had been led by mayor Greg Campbell and that there had been a “great outcome” from the local mines.
The monthly operating budget expected $142,934 but received $156,049.
“We still had people approaching us to give us money but we had no more sponsorship to sell, if that makes sense,” Mr Milligan said.
Cr Campbell said that mining companies were keen to be connected to the C150 events.
“A lot of mines are remote from town so often do not have a lot of interaction, but saw this was an opportunity to raise their profile,” Cr Campbell said.
“It meant we did not have to go to the local town businesses that support and sponsor every event all the time.
“It was probably a great story to be able to sell to a prospective sponsor, that they had really no reason not to want to be involved,” Cr Campbell said.
Some of the events during the week included the MMG Family Fun Sports Day, the South 32 C150 rodeo, and the Ernest Henry Mining C150 Street Parade.
“Words cannot describe how fantastic it was,” Cr Campbell said about the celebrations.
He said that C150 had been a huge economic boost for the town.
“Everything was booked up leading to the week and there’s still bookings now.
They are moving away slowly but it has been a huge boost. The pubs have all been busy.
“We were expecting plenty of people but it smashed everyone’s expectations.
“Everyone from people that still lived here to visitors to the volunteers and sponsors had a fantastic time, and people behaved responsibly while they were having a good time.”
C150 committee chair Dane Swalling said he was “ecstatic” about the success of the celebrations. “I don’t know how much money went into the town but it must have been a lot.
“The pubs were full from breakfast to dinner.”
During the council meeting by telephone call Cr Swalling thanked the committee for its hard work putting the events together.
“And thank you to all the people who came home for it and made it a huge success as well,” Cr Swalling said.
The previous committee chair, Keith Douglas, said on social media after C150 finished; “God’s blessings as you travel back to where you are going.
“I won’t say ‘home’ because Cloncurry is home to us all.”
