Lake Fred Tritton will remain closed until further notice after Richmond Shire Council noticed a suspected Blue Green Algae bloom.

Council have apologised to locals and tourists for the closure but are are taking precautionary methods to ensure safety.
Council conducted an aerial spray of the lake on Monday September 25 and are yet to advise when the lake could reopen.
Blue-green algae can produce poisons harmful to humans and possibly fatal to domestic animals and fish - neurotoxins and liver toxins, and skin allergens.
Algal blooms can cause waters to be unsafe for all users of water including agriculture, irrigation and recreation.
Authorities have advised residents, visitors and pets to
- Stay out of the water
- Do not touch algae in water or on shore
- No swimming
- No Boating
- No fishing
- Do not eat fish from Lake Tritton
- Do not use water from Lake Tritton for drinking or cooking (boiling or filtering water will not make it safe)
- Do not let pets or livestock drink, go into the water or near the algae.
Due to the algae outbreak, the Richmond Fish Stocking Association have had to cancel their Biennial Richmond Fishing Classic that was due to be held this weekend (September 30- October 1).
Richmond Fish Stocking Group secretary, Megan Carrigan, said it was in everyone’s best interest that this be dealt with straight away to ensure its containment and further spread.
“This event will be rescheduled for the same time in 2018,” Ms Carrigan said.
